GUN FOUND: Student Dared To Bring Gun To School
A student at Lincoln High School in Des Moines was arrested Friday after school officials found a handgun in his backpack.
Parents of LHS students received an email from Principal Paul Williamson notifying them of the incident Friday afternoon.
Around 11:30 a.m. administrators were notified that a student may have a gun in his possession. Staff followed safety procedures and pulled the 16-year-old student out of class where they found a handgun and loose ammunition in his backpack. The gun was not loaded.
The student was arrested and later told police it was part of a dare.
According to Williamson’s letter to parents the student will be disciplined as a level IV offense, which recommends expulsion.
