A Marshalltown police officer will be awarded a top honor on Monday.

Officer Vern Jefferson is receiving the Medal of Valor during the Marshalltown city council meeting. The award is the police department’s most prestigious honor.

Jefferson is being awarded the medal for his courage under fire while investigating an armed bank robbery on November 2nd, 2012.

Jefferson was shot while he chased the two suspects involved.

Ben Crisantos and Abel Ramirez, both 22, are charged with attempted murder in the case. They have each pleaded not guilty.
