RARE COIN: Alleged Thief Apprehended

A Des Moines coin shop believes they caught the man who stole a rare coin in February.

Christopher’s Rare Coins on Merle Hay Road filed a police report after a man posed as a customer and walked out the door with a rare 1800 silver dollar coin.

Christopher’s owner Chris Seuntjens says the same man walked into the store on Friday and asked to see some more rare coins. “We thought he looked familiar, but before we could do anything, he left the store.”

The store security guard followed the man into the parking lot and ended up chasing him on foot.

Police were called and took the man to the station for questioning.

“We are hopeful the rare coin will be returned,” Seuntjens said
