WEEKEND WEATHER: Rain In The Forecast

Rain and thunderstorms will return to the state over the weekend, with heavy rain possible in a few locations. Showers will start through the overnight tonight with several waves of rain into Saturday morning.

By noon on Saturday, a few embedded thunderstorms will also push into Southern Iowa and lift northeast into Central Iowa. In some locations that receive thunderstorms, over an inch of rain will be possible by the end of the weekend, mainly along the I-35 corridor.

Rain and isolated storms will continue through the overnight and into Sunday morning. During this time a cold front will push into NW Iowa changing rain over to snow, and potentially dropping 3-6” of snow Northwest of a Sioux City to Estherville line.

By noon on Sunday Central Iowa will see a mix of rain and snow, with minor accumulations of less than an inch in most cases likely.
