Police are investigating a shooting on the southwest side of Des Moines.

Just after 5 p.m. Monday police were called to the 3400 block of Southwest 42nd street, where a 25-year-old man had been shot in the chest.

Authorities are still trying to piece together what happened, but the mother of the victim says her son answered the door, and then someone shot him and ran away.

Police are looking for three black male suspects, who they believe got into a car after the incident.

The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Neighbors say they are surprised because the neighborhood is usually pretty quiet.
