The weather outside may not be ideal for cycling now, but RAGBRAI riders have something to look forward too now that organizers have announced the pass-through towns.
Before staying overnight in Des Moines, riders will pass through Van Meter. It’s a first for the town so they are getting a jump on preparations.
City leaders have formed a planning committee that will cover everything from security to entertainment. The town hopes to show off its new Veterans Reception Center, the Bob Feller Museum, and the American Legion building.
“It’s an opportunity for all the businesses in town to showcase what they do. Hopefully we’ll be able to show all the people who have never been to our town the welcoming community we have.”
Organizers announced the overnight stops on the route across the state in January. Riders will begin in Council Bluffs, before making stops in Harlan, Perry, Des Moines, Knoxville, Oskaloosa and Fairfield. The route ends when riders dip their tires in the Mississippi River in Fort Madison.
Other central Iowa pass-through towns include Minburn, Dallas-Center, West Des Moines, Runnells, Adelphi, Monroe, and Pella. Check out the full route here.
The 41st annual ride across the State begins July 21st.
