CHIMNEY WATCH: Waiting For A New Pope
In Rome Wednesday, all eyes will be on the chimney at the Sistine Chapel as people from around the world wait to hear if a new pope has been chosen
Here in Des Moines anyone driving down Indianola Avenue will know when the cardinals make their decision. St. Anthony’s Church is updating their ‘Chimney Watch’ on the billboard in front of the school.
Black smoke from the chapel chimney in Rome Tuesday meant no Pope was chosen in the first round of voting. The cardinals are expected to meet and vote again Wednesday morning and again in the evening if necessary.
A two-thirds majority is needed to make a final selection.
