Des Moines Police Chief Judy Bradshaw hopes one of President Obama’s school safety initiatives will put more officers in Des Moines Schools.

Bradshaw presented a plan to the school board calling for hiring four more student resource officers at the Tuesday school board meeting.

One officer would work at East High and another at Central Campus. The two others would split time at different middle and elementary schools.

Bradshaw says as much as she’d like to see it happen, right now it’s just a wish list. “I don’t have this in my budget. We are looking at what congress is going to do. I know that the President’s plan is to fund more school resource officers in the way of grants. That obviously has not been approved yet in the congressional budget.”

She also wants to roll out a crime stoppers hotline for students.
