Des Moines police say a man is lucky to be alive after a rollover accident Tuesday night.

Police were called to Grand Avenue near Greenwood Park just before 11p.m.

Witnesses say the driver of a pick-up was headed east on Grand at a high rate of speed when he lost control and hit a curb.  Police say it looks like the truck went airborne, flipped and hit power lines.

The driver wasn’t seriously hurt and was up walking around shortly after the crash.

Sergeant Ronald Kouski says the accident could have been much worse. “He’s extremely lucky.  The rate of speed he was traveling and the way the vehicle went after it collided, he’s darn lucky to be getting up and walking away from this one.”

Kouski says the accident is still under investigation and charges against the driver are pending.

MidAmerican Energy was called and crews were able to fix the power line quickly.
