SCHOOL BUDGET: Uncertainty For School Boards

Des Moines school superintendent Tom Ahart is on his second day of the job and is already facing a challenge.

Thursday, the district will hold its first public budget forum.

The district has released a preliminary budget but leaders still don’t have a clear idea of how much they will have to spend.

Lawmakers in the Iowa House want to increase funding by 2-percent. In the Senate it’s a 4-percent increase.

School districts must have their budgets certified by April 15th.
