How great is the month of March? It’s not even tournament time yet and we’ve had some great games in the conference tournaments. I love it, can’t wait for next week.
Most ‘bracket projections’ have Iowa State as a 9, 10, or 11 seed. This sounds weird but if I were ISU I’d be hoping for an 11 seed. With the parity in college basketball this year we’ve seen the Cyclones can play with anyone. So if ISU gets an 11, that means they face a 6 in the first round. Here are the ‘projected’ 6 seeds from both CBS and ESPN. Wisconsin, Colorado St, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, VCU, and UNLV. ISU can beat ALL of those teams. They can also lose to all of them.
If the Cyclones pull off a first round ‘upset’ as an 11 seed that means they face a 3 seed (assuming no upsets). Obviously the task is much tougher for another upset, but certainly doable. Point is, if ISU avoids the 8-9 game they can avoid the 1 seed in the 2nd round. Iowa State is good enough to beat anyone, the best path to the sweet 16 is as an 11 seed.
The Hawkeyes are not going to the NCAA tournament. Is there a slim, outside chance? Sure, maybe. But let’s be honest, it’s not happening. 7 losses by 4 points or less. If the Hawks win just 3 of those games they’re in, easily.
Fans don’t want to hear it but this Hawkeye team took another step forward this season. 21 wins, and a 6th place finish in the best conference. There’s no reason Iowa can’t compete for a Big 10 title next year. Everyone returns except Eric May. Add in Jarrod Uthoff, Peter Jok and Kyle Meyer to the mix and Fran McCaffery will have more depth than he knows what to do with. If Hawks learn how to finish, watch out.
How in the world does Wisconsin do this every year? Badgers seem like an average team, then they just turn it on. Wisconsin upset Indiana in the Big 10 semis. Watch out for Bucky in the big dance, I wouldn’t want to play them.
Is Brian Urlacher really flirting with the Vikings? Really? This is like your sister going on a date with the douche from another school. I’ve been a Bears fan my entire life. Urlacher is my favorite player. I just can’t see him in purple. I know he isn’t the Urlacher of 3 years ago, but he can still play, and he needs to finish his hall of fame career in Chicago, period.
My daughter has a new favorite TV show. The Fresh Beat Band. Sorry Dora, you’re no longer #1 in the Sears household.
