Funeral arrangements are still pending for a northern Iowa soldier killed in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense confirmed that 27-year-old army Sergeant Steve Blass was one of five Americans killed Monday in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan.
Officials say at this time it doesn’t appear that there was enemy fire in the area when the helicopter went down.
Services for Blass are pending at Henry Olson Funeral Home in Esterville.
Rep. Bruce Braley released the following statement Saturday after learning of the death of the sergeant.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Sgt. Steve Blass’ family during this difficult time. I’m thankful for Sgt. Blass’ service to our country and willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms. I hope all Iowans will keep the Blass family in their prayers.”
