State lawmakers couldn’t muster enough votes to ban traffic cameras, but cities that want them, will soon have some new rules to follow.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is in the process of coming up with new guidelines for the implementation and placement of speed and red-light cameras both fixed and mobile.

They will include criteria of when a camera can be installed and where it can be used.

The new rules are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
