Des Moines police say several witnesses have come forward in a fatal hit and run investigation.

Police have been questioning them over what they saw early Saturday morning at Sixth and College.

That’s when a driver hit 58-year-old Clayton Payne, who was crossing the street, then took off. Payne died the next day in the hospital.

The Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy Monday. The results are still pending.

Polk County Crime Stoppers and the Des Moines Police Department are offering a combined $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. If you have a tip you can call 223-1400.

Police say the vehicle involved may have been a white SUV.
