BULLET PROOF: Group Aims To Keep Police K-9s Safe
An Iowa K-9 will soon be a little safer on the job, thanks to an online campaign to buy him a bullet-proof vest.
Two-year-old Loki of the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s office was selected to receive a vest from a group called Vested Interest in K-9’s Inc.
The organization hopes to raise nearly $100,000 to provide 100 dogs with vests nationwide.
“With the K-9s, they’re going into an area first,” said Loki’s handler, Deputy Matt Harris. “They’re usually our first line of defense going into a house to search for somebody or an open area in a field or something. You know to apprehend a suspect … They should have every bit of the protection that we have afforded to us.”
A special Groupon deal is giving people a chance to donate to the cause for $10 through Wednesday.
