Tuesday night, an Urbandale police officer and a department intern will be honored after saving the life of a teenager last week.

Officer Zac McDowell and intern Nick Schroeder pulled 18-year-old Ian Waseskuk from his burning car last Sunday.

The teenager crashed his car into the side of a church while doing donuts in the snowy parking lot and was knocked unconscious.

Officer McDowell and Schroeder will be given a lifesaving commendation at Tuesday night’s Urbandale city council meeting.

Waseskuk is now out of the hospital.
