A South Dakota community came together Tuesday night to say goodbye to a teenage hero.

Sixteen-year-old Madison Wallace drowned while saving her little brother from the Big Sioux River last week.

Family and friends are still coping with the loss, but as the eldest of six siblings, her parents say they aren’t surprised at her heroic actions.

The memorial service also paid tribute to the heroism of Lyle Eagletail.

The 28-year old also drowned after diving into the water to help the boy.
