The U.S.S. Iowa was given a special gift Wednesday, crafted here in central Iowa.

Woodworkers Jim Gocke of Ankeny and Dave Knau of Windsor Heights reproduced President Harry S. Truman’s famous poker table.

The table was presented on the ship in San Pedro, California on Wednesday.

Brownells Inc. in Montezuma built the solid brass ash trays built into the table. The center playing surface also lifts out to reveal a dice pit underneath.

The original table was given to President Truman by the U.S. Navy and is on display at the Truman’s home in Key West Florida.
