A new television ad supporting gun control legislation will hit the air waves in Iowa soon. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and 900 other mayors are behind the effort.

The $12-million campaign by Mayors Against Illegal Guns will air in 13 states in total.

The ads are airing in states represented by senators that play a crucial role in the gun control votes in Washington DC.

In Iowa, that's Republican Senator Charles Grassley.

"We're trying to do everything we can to impress upon the senators that this is what the survivors want, this is what the public wants, this is what the 900 plus mayors that are in our organization want,” Bloomberg said. “They're the ones that have to deliver safety to the streets every single day.”

The Senate is scheduled to debate federal gun control legislation next month.
