Forbes recently ranked Des Moines among 15 U.S. cities with emerging downtowns.
It may not come as a surprise to those who have lived here for some time, downtown Des Moines has seen significant change in the last decade.
Forbes credits Des Moines with working to revitalize its central business district to attract college-educated young adults between ages 25 to 34, who want an urban lifestyle.
Since 2000, Forbes says more than $3 billion has been pumped into the city for improvements like the skywalk system, expanded public transit, and revamped residential options.
Other cities on the list include, Denver, CO, Atlanta, GA and Louisville, KY.
