STATE FLAG: Knoxville Recognized As Birthplace
The Iowa House approved a resolution Wednesday recognizing Knoxville as the birthplace of the state flag.
March 29th, marks the 92nd anniversary of the adoption of the flag.
The legislation also acknowledges Dixie Gebhardt and members of the Mary Marion chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution of Knoxville as the designers.
The group created the flag back in 1917.
The blue stripe stands for loyalty, justice and truth, the white stands for purity, and the red for courage.
Governor Branstad has proclaimed Friday to be Iowa State Flag Day.
