MURPHY’S LAW: Opening Day Hopes, Game of Thrones Club, Alford Signs Twice

murphys_law_400

I love Opening Day. Winter seems over, anything possible. Cubs and Red Sox both in first place, on pace to win 162 games…

Glad to see pictures of Louisville’s Kevin Ware up on crutches. I have never seen a more gruesome injury at a big sporting event. No way to not think of Joe Theisman…

I thought CBS Sports did a nice job of covering the injury, and the emotional reaction to it, without going too far…

Kevin Ware is exhibit-A why you can’t blame a guy for going pro if he has the chance to make it…

If the Hawkeyes play the way they did at Virginia, they’ll win the NIT. Here’s a picture from Madison Square Garden…

Quick, who won the NIT last year?…

Stanford. (I think.)…

Michigan saved the Big Ten. Can’t call yourself the best basketball conference and advance 0 teams to the Final Four. Trey Burke made sure that didn’t happen…

I won’t lie, I enjoyed seeing the Baylor women lose. Kim Mulkey didn’t. The Baylor coach may have been right about officiating, but she sounded like a sore loser…

I feel like there’s a “Game of Thrones Club”, and I’m not invited…

Here’s a quote from Steve Alford after he agreed to a 10-year deal at New Mexico two weeks ago: “There is no other place I would rather coach than at New Mexico, representing the best fans in the country.” Here’s a quote from Alford a week later after he accepted a job at UCLA: “When I kept thinking about things, it still came back to UCLA.”  No one fails upward like Alford. Well, not since Auburn hired Gene Chizik…

Coaching contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. Or maybe they are,  and that’s the problem. Either way, why can coaches break contracts and work right away, but players who transfer have to sit out a year?…

I’m thinking about going to the Barnstormers game Friday night. The 2-0 start on the road, plus Jim Brinson’s one-of-a-kind, have to hear to believe, touchdown calls have me excited for the season…

Sunday I’m taking my boys to the Globetrotters. I can’t wait. The Globetrotters helped me have one of my best birthdays ever. I hope my kids have half as much fun as I did. And half as much fun as they did at Saturday’s Timberwolves game…
