ALLERGY SEASON: Des Moines Getting Worse

If you suffer from allergies and live in the Des Moines metro, we’ve got some bad news.

A new study shows Des Moines’ allergy season is getting worse.

The capitol city moved up nearly 20 spots since last year and now ranks 30th out of a hundred cities.

The annual list is put out by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

The score is based on pollen, the number of patients using medication and the number of board certified allergists per patient.

In Des Moines, the pollen score and the number of allergists are close to average, but there are an above average number of people using medication.

The study show southern states generally have the worst allergy seasons Jackson, Mississippi ranks number one followed by Knoxville, Tennessee and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
