The stars of the History Channel’s ‘American Pickers’ have picked up a tax break for their store in eastern Iowa.

Monday night, the Le Claire city council voted to designate the area around Antique Archaeology a TIF district.

The owners had asked for a larger tax break than the council decided on due to a planned expansion that includes a museum.

People in attendance at the council meeting were split on the decision.

“As a city, we need to be more cognizant of how we’re spending our tax dollars, and if it’s not really necessary then we shouldn’t be doing it,” says Billie Edwards.

Loren Long supported the action saying, “For a business like Antique Archaeology, which has brought a lot of tourism to Le Claire… you know, why not?  It’s a no-brainer to me.”

The owners of Antique Archaeology have not announced a starting date for the planned expansion.
