An emotional plea from parents who lost their child to a fall from a window wasn’t enough to get lawmakers to make Iowa buildings safer.

On Monday, Shanda and Jamie Geneser asked a house committee to pass a law requiring stronger window screens in newly built multi-family dwellings, hotels and motels.

Two years ago their daughter fell through a window screen at a relative’s home and was killed.

Wednesday, the house judiciary committee failed to bring the bill up for debate, essentially killing it for this session.

The Geneser’s blame Committee Chairman Chip Baltimore for not supporting the bill in committee; they believe it is unfair that one person could stop the legislation from moving forward.
