A tortoise that was missing has been returned to its home at a Dubuque museum.

Sometime between Sunday evening and Tuesday morning, Cashew the tortoise went missing from the National Mississippi River Museum.

Officials say someone bypassed a 4-foot high glass wall and took the female leopard tortoise.

Taking off with Cashew was no easy task. She weighs in at about 18 pounds and is more than 18 inches long.

Cashew was discovered by a visitor Thursday in an elevator at the museum. The tortoise appears to be in good health, but will be examined just to make sure.

Police are reviewing security video in hopes of finding out who returned Cashew to the museum.
