You know what’s wrong with Hawkeyes fans being excited about winning an NIT championship? Nothing.

Iowa is playing its best basketball. I have no doubt this post-season run makes Iowa a better team going into next season, and good thing… Expectations will be through the Carver-Hawkeye Arena roof.

I think Iowa beats Baylor. The Bears do create some match-up problems, but give me Fran McCaffery over Scott Drew…

Don’t miss Iowa State’s Tyrus McGee in the 3-point shooting contest at 6 p.m. Thursday.   If 3-point McGee is on, he’ll win, and leaves jaws dropped…

The Des Moines Register reports Iowa State didn’t report its NCAA violations to the Board of Regents or the athletic oversight council until this week. That, despite finding the 79 violations in 2011. This, after Iowa State provided no information on which sports or coaches were involved. It’s serious enough that Iowa State self-reported to the NCAA, which is right and smart, and asked the NCAA for two years probation.

The lack of complete transparency is troubling. It’s always the best move when possible. Until we know more, we should allow for the possibility that there’s a logical explanation for Iowa State not being more forthcoming…

Rutgers fired tempestuous, some would say abusive, basketball coach Mike Rice. The athletics director should be next, and if the Rutgers president saw that video, and allowed Rice a three game suspension as punishment, it wouldn’t shock me if the president’s eventually out too.

Credit Rice for something he did right: apologize. Didn’t read from a script. Appeared genuinely sorry. Offered no excuses…

The U of Minnesota hires 30 year old FIU coach Richard Pitino. I have no idea if this will work out like Keno Davis at Drake or more like Mike Shula at Alabama, but Minnesota was a few days from interviewing Crunch, the Timberwolves mascot…

The Drake Relays will feature dozens of Olympic medalists. None will have the star power of someone still seeking a medal via bobsled, Lolo Jones. It’s good for the Relays that Lolo will again return to her hometown, especially since Drake lost the draw of Oscar Pistorius…

Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide both say NBC finally has a great show: Hannibal. It debuts Thursday night. Now we’ll see if you watch…

NBC also confirmed the worst kept secret in Hollywood. Jimmy Fallon will replace Jay Leno in a year, even though Leno remains in first place. It’s a risky move, but bound to go better than the Leno/Conan debacle. Fallon and Leno have handled it well…

Anyone know if Wells Fargo Arena rents cots? I’m considering the weekend triple-header of Barnstormers, Energy, Globetrotters…

New Hawkeye receivers coach Bobby Kennedy sounds exactly like Peyton Manning…

First Little League game for us Thursday night. Nothing beats the Spring Walking Taco diet…
