The Des Moines metro area is the second strongest economy in the country according to a Florida study looking at the strength of nearly 1,000 cities.

It’s only behind Washington, D.C.

The Policom Corp. study says Des Moines and West Des Moines are not the fastest growing economies but are well diversified and have grown consistently for over a decade.

“The Des Moines metro has shown resiliency,” said William Fruth, president of the research firm, to the Des Moines Register.

Des Moines has been in the top 25 since 2005.

Ames, Iowa City and Dubuque were also listed in the study and are positioned 135th, 68th and 158th respectively. Waterloo-Cedar Falls is 192nd.
