AMES SHOOTING: Incident At Apartment

Ames police are investigating a shooting that happened at an apartment complex Sunday afternoon.

Police say they received a report of a gunshot at 4719 Mortensen Road, in apartment 207. When officers arrived a witness said they heard one gunshot.

A gunshot hole was found in the wall of apartment 207 into an interior hallway. During the investigation officers learned a man entered apartment 207 and got into a struggle with another man. A gun was fired during the struggle.

The bullet went through the wall, the hallway, and stopped when it hit a cabinet in the apartment across the hall. There were no injuries reported in the shooting.

Witnesses told police they saw an African-American male running from the building shortly after the shooting.
