A Des Moines Schools bus driver died while on his morning route Wednesday.

Des Moines police say it happened at 6:55 a.m. at Southeast 20th and East King Avenue. Fifty-five-year-old Arthur Lubbert suffered a medical emergency and had pulled the bus over a bus stop when he slumped over.

A parent who was at the bus stop with their children started performing chest compressions but Lubbert was pronounced dead after paramedics took him to the hospital.

The school district says Lubbert had been employed with them as a driver since 2005.
