Crews were busy at Principal Park Thursday putting the final touches on the stadium for opening day.

"Opening day for baseball people is a holiday. So everyone is anxious to get it going. It’s a culmination of a lot of months of hard work trying to get the stadium ready and get the promotions calendar ready and get the guys ready,” General Manager Sam Bernabe says.

The Cubs will take on the Albuquerque Isotopes at 7 p.m. Friday.

Fans probably won't notice many differences in the stadium between this year and last, but the players will. During the off season, crews renovated the locker rooms.

“We completely gutted them. We doubled the size of the interior space of the locker room and the weight center is bigger. We re-did the umpires locker room. Everything from the visiting stand point is completely different. We really went from the worst visiting locker room to probably the best visiting locker room in the league,” Bernabe says.

The Des Moines City Council approved financing the $1-million project last year.
