This week, Des Moines got another national accolade to add to its burgeoning trophy cabinet.

Having just been listed by a Florida study that ranked the Metro as the second strongest economy in the nation last week, now, a technology website has named the city in its top 10 list of the Most Unexpected Cities for High-Tech Innovation.’s list compilers say it’s thanks to startups like Dwolla, a digital payment network, and TicketMaster rival, Tikly.

Des Moines accompanies cities like Las Vegas and New Orleans on the list.

It’s not the first time this year Des Moines has been topping the charts.

Two weeks ago, The Business Journals said that Des Moines was the 8th best destination for new graduates nationwide to establish their careers.

Back in February, Forbes also ranked Des Moines among 15 U.S. cities with emerging downtowns thanks to $3 billion of investment since 2000.
