Des Moines was hopeful they would be chosen to host the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in 2016.

The trials are the selection event for the U.S. Team heading to the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero.

With Drake Stadium as the host site Des Moines was considered a leading candidate, but it’s hard to take it away from the town known as Track Town, U.S.A.

Eugene, Oregon won the bid for the 6th time in the city’s history.

Channel 13 was there this past summer when Des Moines’ Lolo Jones and Fort Dodge’s Lisa Uhl qualified for the Olympics.

Greg Edwards with the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau says they are disappointed, but will start working toward 2020.
