President Obama submitted his proposed fiscal year 2014 budget on Wednesday; the budget would cut direct payments completely, but provided mandatory disaster relief in a move estimated to save $29.7 billion over the next ten years.
Those budget savings, along with some gathered by trimming crop insurance and streamlining conservation programs (altogether $43.2 billion) over the next decade, would help offset new support for dairy, livestock, specialty crops, bioenergy and beginning farmers in the same time frame.
