Governor Branstad will meet with Chinese president Xi Jinping Monday.

The governor and a delegation of more than 50 Iowans left for China Friday.

During the trip the governor will talk trade with Chinese leaders including longtime friend President Xi Jinping.

Branstad said his relationship with Xi spans more than two decades, and it’s paid off in the form of creating opportunities for both countries. “They purchase more soybeans than the rest of the countries in the world combined. When he was here last year he they bought $3.4 billion worth of soybeans from Iowa,” he told Ch. 13.

The delegation will be back in Iowa Thursday night.

The meeting comes just two days after US Secretary of State John Kerry visited Chinese diplomats and President Xi Jinping.
