Metro police are working with schools to implement a Crime Stoppers program for students.
The Campus Crime Stoppers program will give metro students the opportunity to anonymously text, call or e-mail authorities to report guns in schools, bullying, or any number of crimes.
Organizers stress, all reports will remain anonymous, but students who spoke with Channel 13 say they are leery.
East High Student Khalen Williams explains, “I don’t think people are gonna snitch. I won’t snitch… It’s not the matter of snitching, it’s the matter of you don’t want to get caught up in it… And I wouldn’t get caught up in that. It ain’t got nothing to do with me.”
Police will work with individual schools to decide the best way of promoting the program.
The number to the text hotline is 274637.
