SANTORUM HOSPITALIZED: Iowa Trip Cancelled

Rick Santorum

Former Pennsylvania senator, Rick Santorum has cancelled a trip to Iowa after being hospitalized over the weekend.

The 2012 Iowa Caucus winner was due to return to the state Monday to attend two metro events but according to a spokesperson, “became ill and was admitted to the hospital for a gastro-intestinal illness and dehydration.”

The Former Republican presidential candidate was due to be the keynote speaker for the spring fundraiser for the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition in Urbandale and to also attend the John Paul II Medical Research Institute for a stem cell research event in Des Moines.

His condition was improving Sunday, “He is feeling better today but remains in the hospital,” Virginia Davis, a spokesperson for Santorum’s political action committee Patriot Voices, said. “He is expected to resume a full schedule later this week and looks forward to returning to Iowa soon.”

Santorum’s participation in the two fundraising events added to the speculation the religious conservative could be positioning himself for a 2016 presidential bid.

Santorum told Newsmax earlier this month that he’s leaving the door open, “I’m making no commitments at this point, but we’re not doing anything inconsistent with running in 2016.”
