A bus crash sent more than 40 students to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Two buses with the Sumner-Fredericksburg School District were traveling south on a county road when one hit the other from behind.
One of the buses lost control and ended up in a ditch.
The buses were full of middle school students at the time. Both drivers and 43 students had to be taken to the hospital for treatment, but most injuries were minor.
Iowa State Trooper Mark Sigwarth said things could have ended much worse, “It’s a misfortune, but at least at this point were not working a fatality or anything that’s too serious. So we’re kind of counting our blessings out here right now on the other side of the road.”
One student is staying overnight at the hospital for observation, but Superintendent Mark Pederson says the student is in stable condition.
