This spring is off to a slow start and it’s showing in the fields.
The latest crop report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture shows last week was the wettest since July 2010, with an average of nearly three inches of rain.
The rain kept farmers from getting into the field but it’s helping to relieve the drought. Less than a quarter of the state’s topsoil moisture levels have a rating short or very short.
Farmers are beginning to get oats in the field but progress is running about 30-percent behind the five year average.
