South Dakota Representative Kristi Noem has introduced legislation to provide a safety net for livestock owners.

Noem's Livestock Disaster Protection Act would extend the Livestock Indemnity Program, Livestock Forage Program and Emergency Livestock Assistance Program for five years and apply retroactively to cover losses in fiscal year 2012 and 2013.

Previously, Noem introduced the legislation in April of last year. The bill made it to the House floor in August, where lawmakers voted to approve livestock disaster assistance with a 223-197 vote.
