Serious flooding in Wapello County was so bad, it wiped out a section of a rural road. The floods took out a 20-foot section of 90th street, just east of Ottumwa.
The water also filled a near-by field, neighbors say, it has to be about 30-feet deep. Run-off flowed across a driveway like a waterfall while crews scrambled to cut a trench for the water to flow away from homes.
Residents say they’ve seen flooding before…but never anything like this.
“(We) lost a significant section of the roadway and the county engineer told me today he just has no idea of the time and cost to replace this road.” said Sheriff Mark Miller.
The road it will remain closed indefinitely.
