Sporting News ranks college football coaches from 1 to 125. The criteria are “wins, championships, recruiting, history at previous jobs, future potential and the intangible Q-factor”…

Nick Saban is the easy choice for #1. Urban Meyer is second. Kirk Ferentz used to turn up in the top ten of polls like this, but he’s free-fallen to 47th. Paul Rhoads is even lower, at 58…

Tim Grover worked as Michael Jordan’s physical and mental trainer. Jordan can’t say enough about Grover. I talked to Grover on our radio show Tuesday, and asked him about Jordan’s legendary “flu game” (game 5, 1997 NBA finals). Grover was in Jordan’s Salt Lake City hotel room the night before, and said five guys showed up to deliver one pizza. Grover says it was food poisoning, not the flu that lead to Jordan collapsing from exhaustion–after he scored 38 points…

Grover trained Kobe, D-Wade, Pippen, Olajuwon and many others. I asked him if MJ was the most physically and mentally gifted athlete. Grover said Jordan was the best combination, but the best athlete he ever trained was–no kidding–Charles Barkley. Barkley is round, but he could jump out the gym, and was better than people remember. Day 3 and Darrelle Revis still hasn’t asked the Bucs to renegotiate his contract…

Bostonians already loved David Ortiz. After Saturday’s speech, he goes from icon to legend…

The Drake Relays deserve credit for recently adding two new fan favorites : Grand Blue Mile, and Pole Vault in the Mall…

I loved the movie “42”. Chadwick Boseman is fantastic as Jackie Robinson. Boseman looks and plays like the baseball legend, but more importantly, he’s able to convey Robinson’s pride and anger in the face of unthinkable racism. Harrison Ford relishes his best role in years as the trailblazing Branch Rickey. I took my youngest kids, and they said 42 was one of their favorite movies. I do think kids need to be old enough to understand the context of the story, which includes a lengthy, hard-to-watch scene where a Phillies manager relentlessly calls Robinson the N-word, and other slurs. I can’t imagine anyone not liking “42”. It’s as important as it is entertaining. The grade is an A
