An eastern Iowa man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly assaulting a woman he met on an online dating site.

Cedar Rapids police responded to a call Sunday night on a report of an injured woman in a stairwell at an apartment.

Investigators say 21-year-old Brian Roche first met the woman online then arranged to met her in person on Sunday.

Police say he kept her inside the apartment for two hours, choked her, then tied her up, sexually assaulted her and stabbed her twice.

The victim managed to escape to the stairs where a neighbor found her, but her injuries are being described as life-threatening.

Roche is in the Linn County jail charged with first-degree kidnapping, first degree sexual abuse, and attempted murder.
