The Iowa Flood Center on the University of Iowa’s campus is embarking on a huge project.
The center is partnering with NASA to study the dynamics of flooding in hopes of gaining a better understanding of worldwide rain events.
The two organizations will be working together until mid-June using hundreds of sophisticated instruments set up in basins in central and northeastern Iowa to measure rainfall.
The data collected on the ground will help provide a more accurate picture for a NASA satellite radar set to launch next year.
The goal of this project is to better understand where the water on our planet goes.
