Students in eastern Iowa hope some mail will bring happiness to the Boston bombing victims.

Fifth-grader Mary Fisher of Wellman came up with the idea of making homemade cards to send to the victims. She decided to get some of her friends involved too.

“Stay strong and believe, get well soon. I also hope you have a day full of joy,” are some of the messages the cards read.

The girls used their free time at school to make 100 cards.

“I think it’s a good way for them to express how they feel about it and their support for the victims and I’m very proud of them for thinking of that idea on their own,” teacher Michelle Bessman said.

The cards were all put in the mail Thursday.
