One person was air lifted to a hospital after a shooting overnight in eastern Iowa.

It happened around 11:15 Thursday night in Maquoketa. Police say they found 63-year-old Gerald Edwards with a gunshot wound.

Edwards told police there was an intruder in his house, who shot him, then ran off.

Paramedics took Edwards to a local hospital then airlifted him to Iowa City where he’s in stable condition.

Police say they found the weapon at the scene, and say there is no public safety concern.
