The search continues for a Sioux City man accused of shooting a police officer.
Sioux City Police are on the hunt for 21-year-old Jamal Dean, who allegedly fired several shots at Officer Kevin McCormick Monday night.
McCormick stopped Dean for a seat belt violation, but before he even got out of his patrol car Dean allegedly began shooting.
Sioux City Police Chief Doug Young says, “The officer’s instincts and training kicked in. Officer McCormick laid down in the front seat of the patrol vehicle, put it in reverse, and floored it.”
Officer McCormick suffered a bullet wound to the forehead, but was released from the hospital Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police believe someone is helping Dean hide from police.
Even Dean’s family is asking him to surrender.
