Changes in the Big Ten could put the annual Iowa-UNI game on the endangered list.
The Big Ten’s decision to move to a 9 game conference schedule has some worried that the state-school rivalry game will be bumped.
UNI Athletics Director Troy Dannen says the end of the series would devastate UNI’s athletic budget. Coach Mark Farley doesn’t like it either, his Panthers put a scare into Iowa in 2009 when Iowa had to block two-game-winning field goal attempts to hang on.
The two teams didn’t play football against one another for 81 years, but resumed in 1995.
The Panthers are scheduled to play at Iowa in 2014 and 2018, but that may change.
