FARM FIRE: Ames Family Attraction Burns
Firefighters battled the weather as well as a fire at a farm in Story County Thursday morning.
Crews were called to Black’s Heritage Farm, just south of Ames, shortly after 6:00 a.m. on a structure fire. When they arrived they found a large shed on fire. The farm is open to the public and offers a pumpkin patch, and the building that burned is used as a store.
Ken Kling, the fire chief of the West Story Fire Agency, says they he expects crews will be on the scene for much of the morning. Kling says they haven’t been able to get close enough to find out exactly where the fire started or what caused it.
Kling says the weather conditions, with heavy snow and winds, made it a challenge for firefighters to work the scene.
