In Fort Dodge, the snow came down hard and fast and most of it fell before the morning commute.
The people of Fort Dodge didn’t expect it to hit this hard.
“I had to dig out the winter coat… Had it all put away for the season,” resident Julie Lumsten said.
More than 5.5 inches of heavy, wet snow left the roads a slippery, slushy mess.
School was cancelled for the day and downed trees left several hundred residents without power. Many spent their mornings digging out their driveways and sidewalks, while road crews got to work.
“Currently we have 12 of our street division crews out plowing our main streets and residential streets,” Director of Public Works Greg Koch said.
The warm temperatures we experienced just days ago mean warm ground temperatures will make flooding a serious issue. Public Works crews have brought in front loaders to carry off water from the street.
The water was ankle deep in some areas of town.
